The guys over at Clutch Baseball created a great thing they called the Power Die. Most of the game you roll a 20-sided die to get your results. Only if your pitcher rolls what they call a "Mistake Pitch" the batter takes his swing with a 24-sided die. Since the higher the number the better results for the batter this gives you 4 more options for good stuff. Many, including us, have added this to their games. Whenever a pitcher rolls a "1" during his pitch phase, the batter rolls the D24.
The critics biggest concern was that this would unbalance the game in favor of the offense since there wasn't an equivalent for the pitcher and the sarcastic comment of rolling a 16-sided die was made. The problem with that was that when the batter rolls the D24 there is still that possibility of rolling a low number and still get out...which is realistic because a pitcher can throw a meatball and the batter can still miss it and end up hitting a flyball. However, if a pitcher rolls a "20" or Perfect pitch the swing will always be rolled off the pitchers chart and 1-16 is an out on many of those charts. Even perfect pitches get hit. Also, D16's are hard to find and roll like garbage. So our solutions was this...when the pitcher makes one of these "Great Pitches", the batter must subtract 1 from his swing. What it means is that pitcher that top their charts with HR or Doubles at most will likely only be giving up a single and the stats of a -1 to the swing on the pitcher chart work out remarkably well for rolling a D24 for the batters.
TIP: If you are looking to purchase a D24, know that there are two shapes. One is slightly easier to find, and it's shaped like a bulging cube...don't get that one. You want the one that is more rounded. You can usually find it called "kite faced" or by it's technical term d24 Deltoidal Icositetrahedron. I found the best deal for me on a site called Pippd but they also had a ebay store as well.
