Orel Hershiser
In today's world where everyone seems to throw 100 MPH Orel Hershiser probably wouldn't get drafted. Bulldog, the nickname Tommy Lasorda gave him during his Dodger days, did not overpower hitters, he used brains over brawn.
His constant ability to use multiple pitches, arm angles, and velocities to bluff hitters made him a tough pitcher to face. This thinking man's ability he later used in his later career choice as a professional poker player.
He got his first postseason start in 1985. After a Hershiser wild pitch allowed the first run of the game to score in the top of the third the Dodger's bats came alive scoring 3 in the bottom. Exactly what a manager hopes for after a big inning, Hershiser shut the door with 2 straight 1-2-3 innings. By the time the 9th inning started the Dodgers were up 8-1. So Hershiser went back out in the 9th and despite giving up a run to make it 8-2 he finished what he started. This would the first in what would end up being 4 complete game wins in the Postseason.
In 1988 Hershiser would win MVP of the NLCS. In the World Series Hershiser went up against the mythical Bash Brothers of Oakland. In his two world series starts he would give up a total of 2 ER and go the distance in both games. Mcgwire and Canseco combined for ZERO hits and Canseco struck out twice. Behind these two CG wins the Dodger's would go on to win the World Series in five games and Hershiser was named the WS MVP.
In 1995 Hershiser would sign with the Cleveland Indians when their General Manager John Hart said that the team was looking for a veteran with "character and competitiveness" to show the young players how to play the right way.
Hershiser won the two games he pitched in the 1995 American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Seattle Mariners and was selected as the ALCS MVP, the first player to have won the LCS MVP Award in both leagues.
In the 1995 World Series Hershiser went up against Greg Maddux and despite only giving up 3 ER he would take his first postseason loss dropping his record to 7-1. He'd get his revenge in the rematch giving up only 1 ER to get the win over Maddux to now be 8-1 in postseason play. The Braves would go on to win the series in 6 games but not for lack of effort by Hershiser. His WHIP of .857 was identical to his WHIP in the ALCS.
Hershiser ended his career with an 8-3 record and one of the best WHIP's in all of postseason history at 1.106 with a 1.095 in the WS. For this we have deemed Hershiser...a Postseason Legend.
So enjoy two versions. Both are made from the same combined stats but two chart possibilities came out equivalent here. So we gave the Control 6 the Dodger's uniform since that one would have the better shot at a complete game...which all four of his complete games came in a Dodger's uniform.
Non Cut-line versions
